Ultra White Collar Boxing

November 16 @ 3:30 pm - 10:00 pm

3 3

Training for this event starts the week commencing 23/09/2024 and you can register here.

Ultra White Collar Boxing is a unique opportunity for people with no prior boxing background to experience the wonderful world of boxing, in a safe and enjoyable environment!

Participants will receive 8 weeks of free training (worth £300) at a local boxing gym with professional boxing coaches.

At the end of the 8 weeks of training, participants will be fairly matched based on weight, fitness, ability & age with an opponent from the group you have trained with to ensure a fair competitive challenge. There will be a black-tie boxing showcase at the Royal Armouries in Leeds where participants are asked to invite their families and friends to support them in the climax of this incredible fitness journey.

UWCB asks all boxers to pledge to raise a minimum of £50 for charity and they are also required to sell tickets to the event. All ticket money goes to cover the cost of running the event and putting on the training, and you can find out more about them here.

Hear more from Katie, who took part in UWCB in aid of Leeds Mind:

I signed up by accident; I thought I was just inquiring for more information, then received an email saying congratulations, you’re in. But I’m glad I did it!

I had lost my brother to his battle with mental health, and Leeds Mind supported my family with suicide bereavement. They were a massive help to my family, and I also referred all of my clients who suffer from mental health issues to them. They supported many of them too.

I was always looking for new ways to raise money for Leeds Mind in memory of my brother after they supported my family through what was the hardest time. The training was hard, as I’m not a physically fit person, but my fitness improved a lot, and I lost weight. It was an amazing group of people to train with, all supportive of each other. Training got easier as the weeks went on, I really enjoyed it!

Fight night came around so fast. I was so excited but also so nervous. I felt the most nervous waiting for the curtains to open for my walk to the ring; it felt like forever! It was a buzz walking out to my family and friends cheering me on. As soon as I was in the ring and the bell rang, it was like no one else was there—just me and my opponent, who had become such a good friend during training. The rounds went so fast!

Although I lost the fight, it was never about winning for me. It was about having fun, getting fit, and raising money for a great charity that has done so much for my family over the past nine years. After the fight, I was still full of adrenaline. It was nice to sit with my friends and family and support the other fighters.

The run-up to the event was great! It was something I never thought I’d take part in, and I loved every minute of it! It really was a spectacular night, and I 100% would do it again. I would urge anyone who is thinking about it to just go for it!
