Fundraising for your firewalk

We ask that all participants aim to fundraise £150 for Leeds Mind. Money from fundraisers like the firewalk help us to continue providing our services to those who need them. For this reason, we ask all participants to share their fundraiser with friends and family – you could even ask them to join you in the firewalk and start their own fundraiser!

Fiery FAQs

A firewalk can be a nerve-wracking thing to sign up for, but there’s no need to be scared. We have answers to some frequently asked questions to help give you peace of mind that your firewalk will leave you feeling energised and not fried!

Is it safe?

Any activity involving fire includes a certain amount of risk. However, we work with UK Firewalk, one of the leading Firewalk companies in the UK. They have led tens of thousands of walkers across the coals, and have an outstanding safety record. Participants will be given plenty of training and advice before taking on the firewalk. There will also be firewatchers and spotters on hand to make sure everything goes smoothly and that everyone is safe.

How should I prepare?

You don’t need to do any preparation before your firewalk. All you need to do is arrive on the day with a go-getter attitude!

How fit do I need to be?

If you are able to walk comfortably then you should be able to do the firewalk with ease.

What should I wear?

You don’t need any special clothing to do the firewalk but be wary of the fact fires can be dirty and you might get ash on the clothes you wear. Easy-to-remove footwear is a good idea. You might also like to bring a cloth or hand towel to clean your feet with after your firewalk, as the walk is carried out bare foot and will be dirty.

This event will be hosted outside, so you should consider what clothing will be best for the day. As the event is in November, warm clothes and waterproofs might be required.

Are there any medical restrictions?

People of all ages and abilities have tackled the firewalk. Pregnant people, stroke survivors and blind people (among many other conditions) have all taken on the hot coals. If you want to sign up for the firewalk but are concerned about an existing condition, you should seek advice from your doctor.

You can find full FAQs on UK Firewalk’s website here.

“You should definitely go for it if you can!”

The firewalk is exciting and daring challenge, and not one to miss. Bev undertook the firewalk challenge to raise money for Leeds Mind and said it felt like a “spiritual experience”.

“I found out about the firewalk through the fundraising team at Leeds Mind. I was excited, I wasn’t apprehensive at all.”

“When we got there, we were taken into a room and taught about the method. It felt really special, and we were all allowed to do the firewalk more than once if we wanted to – it didn’t hurt, I promise!”

So why not take on the challenge and sign up today. We have limited spaces and we would love you to join us on 7/11/2024 at Victoria Gardens (outside of Leeds Art Gallery) for an evening to remember.
