Content warning: suicide, suicide bereavement, stigma around suicide, grief

We are continuing our work with people from South Asian backgrounds, inviting people to share their experiences and opinions on accessing suicide bereavement support.

We hope that this will help us to better understand the barriers that British South Asian and South Asian people face, so that we can help more people with similar experiences.

We are holding tea and chat events to do this. Participants will be able to share experiences and thoughts in a safe space, as well as any ideas that could make it easier for others to get support.

We have previously held events in Leeds and Batley. Thank you to everyone that came along and shared their experiences.

The next in-person tea and chat event is:

  • Date: 6th March 2023
  • Time: 12:00 – 14:00
  • Location: Huddersfield Muslim Community Centre, Clare Hill off Cambridge Road, Huddersfield, HD1 5BS

If you would like to come along, please email sbs@leedsmind.org.uk

Refreshments will be provided at Huddersfield Muslim Community Centre. Please be reassured that the group discussion will be fully confidential and any data we use from the group will be anonymised.

If you know anyone that has also been affected by suicide (from a South Asian heritage), we would be happy to connect with and learn from them too. This is regardless of whether they have accessed our service or any other support, or none at all. Please share the link with anyone you know who might be interested.

If you have been affected by suicide, please consider accessing our Suicide Bereavement Services. You can find more information on the service here: https://www.leedsmind.org.uk/suicide-bereavement-services-west-yorkshire/

We also have a grief and loss support line, which you can call for free on 0800 196 3833 (8am – 8pm, 7 days a week). For more info, please visit: https://www.griefandlosswyh.co.uk

You can find more information and advice around losing someone to suicide on Mind’s website.
